ESSENTIAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

The following requirements apply to all KWIKGrout installations and must be followed for correct performance.

Installation Conditions

  • Substrates must be sound, clean, rigid, and properly prepared.
  • Ensure tile adhesive is fully cured before grouting.
  • Always follow the correct water-to-powder mixing ratio.
  • Do not retemper grout that has begun to set.
  • Apply using a rubber grout float held at a 45° angle, pressing firmly to pack joints completely and improve water resistance.
  • Clean off excess grout with a damp sponge before it begins to harden.
  • Protect from water, frost, and traffic during initial curing.

Application Proccess

The following requirements apply to all KWIKGrout installations and must be followed for correct performance.

Tools

Ensure you have all your tools ready before you open the bag.

  • Rubber grout float (best option)
  • OR grout applicator / rake
  • OR Small steel trowel
  • Mixing bucket
  • Drill with mixing padel
  • Old screwdriver (for cleaning joints)
  • Sponge and clean water
  • Soft cloth

Materials

  • KWIKgrout
  • Clean water
  • KWIKbond (for wet or outdoor areas)
  • Grout cleaner (if grout haze is hard to remove)

Safety

Grout contains cement. Avoid skin and eye contact.

STEP 1

Prepare the joints

Good prep makes all the difference.

  • Tiles must be firmly stuck down
  • Tile adhesive must be fully dry
  • Joints must be clean and dry
  • Use an old screwdriver to remove dried adhesive from joints

Grouting too early can cause colour problems.

STEP 2

Mix the grout

Mixing properly helps prevent cracking and colour issues.

  • Add clean water or KWIKbond to the bucket
  • Add grout powder to the water
  • Mix using a drill and mixing paddle until smooth and creamy
  • Let the mix stand for 2–3 minutes
  • Remix briefly and start using

Water Guide

  • ±1.25 - 1.5 litres per 5kg
  • ±5 - 6 litres per 20kg

Do not add extra water. Too much water weakens the grout.

Using KWIKbond

Replace the full water amount with KWIKBond​

  • Showers / Bathrooms
  • Patios
  • High traffic areas
  • Continuously wet areas

Do not mix water and KWIKBond together.

STEP 3

Apply the Grout

This step is key to strong, neat joints.

  • Hold the tool at a 45° angle to the tile surface
  • Work diagonally across the tiles
  • Press firmly to pack grout fully into the joints
  • Remove excess grout while it’s still wet

The 45° angle helps push grout into the joints instead of pulling it out.

STEP 4

Clean the Tiles

Clean gently and at the right time.

  • Wait a few minutes for grout to firm up
  • Wipe with a damp sponge
  • Wipe diagonally, not along the joints
  • Rinse sponge often

If grout haze is difficult to remove, use a grout cleaner once the grout has set.

Do not over-wash. Too much water can wash grout out of the joints.

STEP 4

Leave it to set

Give the grout time to harden.

  • Walk on floors after about 24 hours
  • Keep water off the grout during early drying

Mixing properly helps prevent cracking and colour issues.

Kwik-Key primer is used on porous surfaces to regulate absorption.

Kwik-Key Slurry is required to create a mechanical bond on dense or sealed surfaces.

How Much Grout Do I Need?

Grout coverage depends on tile size, joint width, and joint depth.
The table below is a general guide for 20kg.

  • Smaller tiles use more grout
  • Wider or deeper joints use more grout
  • Uneven tiles can reduce coverage

If you are unsure, it’s best to buy a little extra grout to avoid colour differences later.

Curing and Cleaning

KWIKgrout is a high-performance grout. Proper curing ensures long-term durabilityand consistent colour.

Curing Guidelines

  • Avoid disturbing tiles during the early setting period
  • Protect freshly tiled areas from moisture, vibration, and movement
  • Ensure adequate ventilation to allow moisture to evaporate
  • fully cured after 28 days
  • Do not cover tiled areas or restrict airflow during drying
  • Allow the adhesive to firm up fully before grouting

Additional notes

  • Cooler temperatures and poor ventilation will extend drying times
  • High humidity will slow moisture evaporation and delay set
  • Always follow recommended application practices for polymer paste adhesives
